Hate to make the suggestion, after two previous weeks of HP-negativity from the Brook side of things at community dinner, but have you considered Harry Potter? Just join the crowd, Brook -- c'mon.
The "nope..." comment was not from me but rather from Joie I think. I've read all of the Harry Potter books and I loved The Brothers K, so I think I might give The River Why a chance. Thanks Andy!
I'll guess Renae has recommended them before, but I really liked both of David James Duncan's novels: The River Why and The Brothers K.
